Universal Design

New construction for a client with rheumatoid arthritis needing to design for his many limitations. The client’s major issue?  Creating for his needs without the house appearing to be for someone with a disability. Examining the plans, we saw many areas needing to change to make the house meet the client’s needs, removing some windows, building in a custom closet with pull-down shelving to access clothing on higher shelves; preparing a kitchen and bath layout with lowered cabinetry; higher toe kicks, zero-entry to the shower, locating tile shower heads around the shower bench for therapy.
